Three people injured, one seriously, in head-on collision

Three people were injured, one seriously, after a crash at Lake Avenue and Ridgeway Avenue in Rochester Sunday evening. That's just west of the Veterans Memorial Bridge on Route 104.

Rural Metro paramedics say two vans were in a head-on collision. Police confirmed the crash was caused by a driver who went through a red light at the intersection.

The three women who were injured were all in the van that ran the light. The woman who was seriously hurt was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The person in the other vehicle was not hurt.

Police say they plan on ticketing the driver of the van that ran the light.

House fire on Cottage Street

Fire investigators are trying to determine was caused a house to go up in flames on Cottage Street. It happened around 3:45 a.m. Friday.

Fire officials say one adult and four children were not home at the time of the fire.

William Pettway lives across the street from the home. He was the first to call 911. “I went in the kitchen to put my coffee on and I hear a ‘beep, beep, beep’. I came back to the door and it was a fire alarm and I said, ‘oh it's nothing but a fire alarm.’ So I turned around to put the water in the pot and all of a sudden I heard something like a boom. It sounded like someone closed a door and a car door. I ran to the door and I looked out across the street but nobody was there. There was a side window and I saw smoke coming out of the window.”
