The City of Rochester is kicking off the holiday season with a Free Family Fun Day and Lighting of the Liberty Pole event on Saturday.
The event starts at 3:00pm at the Sibley Building. There will be the sounds of Rochester City School District music ensemble, as well as Santa will visit children in his original Midtown chair. The fun moves outside around 4:45pm when Mayor Bob Duffy along with Santa, Rudolph and Prime Time Brass light the Liberty Pole.
Party-goers may then either walk, or ride an old-time trolley or horse-drawn hay wagon for a 15-minute family holiday parade with Santa, Prime Time Brass, Rudolph and other holiday character leading the way to nearby Manhattan Square Ice Skating Rink as the festivites continue. There will be ground fireworks at 5:30pm around Manhattan Square Park. There will also be figure and speed skating exhibitions, free horse-drawn wagon rides around the park and free open skate until 8:30pm. Food and refreshment will be available and skate rentals are $3 per person.
Parking is available at East End Garage, 475 E. Main St.; Washington Square Garage, 111 Woodbury Blvd., and at free on-street meters. Catch the free trolley for a ride back to your parking garage.
