As the name would lead you to believe, Design Pool & Spa knows plenty about pools and spas.  In the 25 year history of the Fairport-based business, owned by the Bednarcyk family, thousands of water-savvy projects have been drafted, designed, and installed.  Yet such tasks are not all the Bednarcyk family is known for – they’re dedicated fundraisers and 5k runners, too!

On June 2, Bednarcyk family members Patty, Kacie, and Kurt, participated in the ‘Stroll for Strong Kids and 5k’ charity race for the second year in a row.  The nearly 5,000 participants at the University of Rochester River Campus raised funds for children who have been patients at Strong Memorial Hospital.  Cody, a five year old nephew of a family friend, was the beneficiary of choice for the Bednarcyk’s.

“Cody was born with Williams Syndrome, which resulted in surgery performed for a cleft pallet and aortic stenosis. The funds we raised in Cody’s name went to the Pediatric Cardiology Department at Strong Hospital”, said Patty Bednarcyk.

The Bednarcyk’s have raised more than $1,000 over the past two years for the Pediatric Cardiology Department on Cody’s behalf.  This year’s times in the 5k, Patty says, were something to be proud of, too.  "My time was seven minutes better than last years. Who knows what we can accomplish in 2013!"
