Dr. Sobel and Dr. Seuss
Rochester oncologist Dr. Sidney Sobel has a soft spot for Dr. Seuss's The Sneetches.
It's a story he read to his children years ago--about some star bellied yellow creatures--and some with no stars.
It's a story he says, stands out.
"The starred bellied Sneetches feel superior and prey upon or are very rude to and very mean to and exclude the plain bellied Sneetches."
Dr. Sobel uses words like discrimination, bias, and bigotry in describing parts of the story's message. He says it's one he experienced growing up.
" I was small, I was a very small kid and I experienced bullying based on my physical size but also ethnically."
The events that shaped his life also shaped a personal commitment from him to find a way to change the world.
Now, decades later, he's found the instrument to do help do that--music.
