Rochester based charity and local organizations partner for holiday gift project

Rochester based charity and local organizations partner for holiday gift project

Alyssa’s Angels, a Henrietta based charity, started a holiday gift project in 2011 to directly help local children and families in need during the holiday season. Five worthy non-profit organizations were selected and Alyssa’s Angels donated $500 to each.

This year, in an effort for the program to have a greater impact and help even more Rochester area children and families; Alyssa’s Angels reached out for partner organizations from the community to match its $500 donation. Through this effort, each of the five selected non-profit organizations received $1,000.

Kodak retirees weigh options

Saturday, another meeting was held for Kodak retirees who health care benefits will be eliminated at the end of the year. These meetings have attracted a lot of people, and some even have been turned away. That wasn't the case on during Saturday's meeting but it's clear retirees are still curious about their options.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved Kodak's proposal to terminate health care coverage for its retirees earlier this week. Initially, there were only a few meetings scheduled to help retirees explore other plans. However since so many were concerned about their new health care options, they had to add a few more meetings this month.

"Many of us had it for many, many years with Kodak," says Bruce Vanek. "So we haven't had to worry about it any and now, all of a sudden, we have some decisions to make."

Officials break ground on new Golisano Children's Hospital

It's been credited with saving the lives of so many children in our community. Now you'll be seeing changes at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Monday morning, officials broke ground on a new building.

The children who are living today because of Golisano Children’s Hospital are an inspiration and this construction project is all about putting kids first. Some of those children helped with the groundbreaking this morning including Cory Milburn.

Milburn was born at 25 weeks weighing only one pound and eight ounces. Doctors told his mother three times he would not make it but he did. He stayed in NICU for 104 days and is now five years old and just started kindergarten in Spencerport.
