Boy rescued from canal now released from hospital

One of the children who was in a stroller that accidentally rolled into the Erie Canal earlier this week is now out of the hospital. Strong Hospital Officials tell News10NBC that Sam Clanton has been discharged from the hospital.

Sam's sister, Saleh, is still listed as being in guarded condition at Strong.

The two children were rescued after their stroller fell into the canal on Wednesday near the University of Rochester. Their father, Jon, jumped in after them, and was also rescued.

The Clantons were in the area this week for a check-up for Sam, and to see if their other daughter, Sarah, would be a candidate for the same surgery.

"It's almost like a little homecoming to come to Rochester to see everyone," says Yvonne Clanton, mother of Sam and Selah. "We've just had not one negative experience in all the times--I'm not sure how many times we've been here. But over the last 5 years several times. I just can't say enough."

For those looking to help the Clanton family, Pastor Tony Goddard of the Christian Community Church has started a benevolence fund through the Reliant Community Credit Union in Sodus. The name of the account is "Clanton Benevolence Fund."

Jon Clanton was planning on preaching at a service this Sunday at the church, but is now obviously unable due to the accident.
