A 34-year-old mother of three and licensed practical nurse is the newest winner on $1,000 a Week for Life New York Lottery Instant Game.
Tawanda Almedino, of Rochester, bought her $2 Win $1,000 A Week for Life scratch off ticket on May 20 at the Wegmans on Chili Avenue. She claimed her prize on May 23 at the Lottery's Customer Service Center at the First Federal Plaza on East Main Street.
Almedino is a licensed practical nurse at Monroe Community Hospital and is studying for her registered nursing degree.
Like all "For Life" top prizes, the guaranteed minimum prize on $1,000 A Week for Life ticket is paid as a 20-year annuity. Almedino wil receive her $1,000,000 minimum prize in 19 annual payments of $52,000(net $34,336) and one additional payment of $12,000. After she's received her guaranteed $1,000,000, she will continue to receive annuitized payments for life.
Almedino says she plays to use a portion of her money to pay for college for herself and her children. As for her other plans, the working mother said she wants to keep it simple. She also promised her children if she ever won the lottery, she take them to Disney World. She says she wants to make good on that promise.
