Monday was a big night for the Rochester Police Department, who honored the men and women who serve our community with the department's annual awards dinner.
The top honor was for Officer of the Year, and it went to Officer Nolan Wengert of RPD's west patrol division.
Wengert and four other finalists were nominated for their work on duty, as well as community involvement.
Monday's dinner recognized dozens of other officers who went above and beyond the call in the past year. Chief James Sheppard says they represent the best of RPD.
May is also Fallen Officer Month, a time to remember officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving their department and community.
