MacGregor’s Grill and Tap Room is moving into the East End. News10NBC has learned the owner of MacGregor’s bought the anchor bar and grill and the adjacent bar, scene ultra lounge.

For weeks the block of East Avenue near Alexander Street has been essentially closed after the Anchor Sports Bar and Grill and the neighboring bar closed down for business. MacGregor's has decided to move back into the city and for the first time come to the East End.

The owner says he closed on the properties last week. He’s already started to do some renovation work on the inside and his hope is that he opens up his restaurant by mid-May.

Rochester wine bar makes Yahoo's list of "America's Best Wine Bars"

It’s no secret, The Finger Lakes region is a hot spot for wine lovers and the wineries are a great place to do a little sampling, but now the city of Rochester is being recognized for wine too.

When you think of an upscale wine bar, you probably think of something in Napa Valley. Your first thoughts probably wouldn’t take you to Rochester.

But your thoughts might change when Yahoo Travel’s list of the 10 Best Wine Bars in the country came out this weekend. The usual suspects were all there, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and New York City.

But nestled among the posh and glamorous was, believe it or not, Rochester.

Dave Verno said, “At first, I thought it was maybe in New York, but when I found out it was the whole country and we were 8th, I was like ‘You got to be kidding me, this is fantastic’.”

Verno co-owns Flight Wine Bar in Corn Hill Landing with his son and daughter-in-law.

Fairport student getting a lesson in local food

Fairport student getting a lesson in local food

It seems like everyone is promoting local food these days, but Art Rogers says you can’t believe everything you hear.

For one thing, the “locavore” phenomenon doesn’t just apply to fruits and vegetables, explained Rogers, owner and head chef at Lento, a fine dining restaurant in Rochester.

Fairport High School senior Chris Cullen has been shadowing Rogers to learn about the farm-to-table approach for school credit. Cullen first met Rogers while working part-time at Vella Bath, where the chef was giving a cooking demonstration. This sparked Cullen’s interest, and he soon got approval from the school to move forward with a new project.

One of the first things they did was head to the Rochester Public Market on a Saturday morning to shop for produce.

“He got me up at 6:30 in the morning,” he said with a smile. “But after I got home, I wanted to cook. It gets you excited about food.”
